Bob Dormois, 81, departed to be with the Lord after a sudden and totally unexpected health event on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
He closed his eyes for the last time on earth on Mother’s Day, and the next time he opened them, on Ascension Day, he was staring into the face of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Clyde Robert Dormois, was born in Houston, Texas Sept. 27, 1944 to Clyde Orlan Dormois and Melba Byers Dormois. He spent his childhood in Houston’s old East End. From a young boy through adulthood, he participated in sports, Little League, Junior High and High school baseball, football, and track, and as a member of a Houston All City Softball team.
When he wasn’t playing sports, he enjoyed watching them, especially his beloved University of Houston and Texas Aggies.
An excellent golfer, he taught his daughter, Renee, the apple of his eye, to play. They played often together after his retirement. He spent his professional life in industrial sales and retired in 2012 as Regional Sales Manager after 24 years with Hypertherm Plazma Inc. Always a car enthusiast, Bob pursued his love of cars throughout his life and owned and restored numerous beautiful automobiles. He had a 1986 Mustang purchased from a state auction that belonged to a State Trooper. After much tweaking and many hours of preparing it, he enjoyed years of drag racing winning many trophies. He is past president of Austin County Cruisers Classic Car Club.
He married his Austin High School sweetheart, and wife of 63 years, Karen Kohlhauff Dormois.
While raising their daughter they returned to the East End and spent many years in the lovely, near downtown neighborhood of Idylwood where Bob had lived as a child, as well.
They moved in 1983 to Georgetown, Texas and enjoyed nearly 22 years there. Bob and Karen moved to New Ulm, TX in 2004 and began a new chapter with new friends, new hobbies, and activities. It was a very happy time enjoying all the special things that are associated with small town life.
Bob attended Berachah Church of Houston for over 54 years and cherished studying the Word of God. He also enjoyed volunteering at Festival Hill Institute in Round Top.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, daughter, Renee Sullins and husband David, granddaughter, Adelaide and husband Ben, and the stars of his universe, his four great grandchildren, Ella Faye, Noah, Naomi, and Oren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Kay Ann Dormois Posey.
Bob was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed. There will be a private family burial. A Visitation and a Celebration of Life are planned for Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. John Church in New Ulm with reception following. Details will be published at a later date.
If desired, donations may be made to Berachah Church Houston, in memory of Bob Dormois, 2815 Sage Rd, Houston, TX 77056, or in Bob’s memory, to The James Dick, Foundation, P.O. Box 89, Round Top, TX 78954.
