Daniel Marquez Perez, 87, passed way in his sleep at a time that was neither day nor night. It was Thursday, September 10, 2015 in Houston, TX that he was given an offer he couldn't refuse. He was born October 12, 1927 in Arbo, Ponteverda, Spain. At the age of 21 Daniel set sail for Cuba, were he met the love of his life, the beautiful Maria Martina Lindin. Daniel and Maria married December 22, 1956 in Havana, Cuba. During their marriage they had three daughters, Pastora, Marta, and Isabel. After the revolution began Daniel and his wife had to make a heart wrenching decision. Like thousands of other citizens, Maria and their three daughters abandoned Cuba, knowing that Daniel would have to make the sacrifice of staying behind. A year later Daniel was reunited with his family in
Daniel's passion was carpentry, cabinet making, and restoration. Due to the circumstances and lack of the English language, Daniel became a part of the Kmart family for 15 years. To this day, one thing that is very important to our family is Sunday's. It's not just any old day in our family but a time to have good food, good wine, and make lifelong memories. Daniel was always one to have a glass of cognac alongside his café after lunch.
Daniel was a man that would chase his grandchildren around the house with a blanket over his head yelling "Boo!"
A man who would sit outside every morning and swear up and down that he could talk to the birds.
A man who was close with his neighbors and who he called friends.
A man who loved gardening just as much as his wife did.
A man who believed family is everything.
A man who considered a lazy boy part of the family.
A man who actually believed that he was a great driver when all light posts and fire hydrants coward in fear when he would hit the streets.
A man who always looked sharp even if all he was doing was staying in for the day.
Daniel is survived by his three daughters, Pastora Suarez, Marta Goodman, and Isabel Dartayet, as well as his and son-in-law Mario Dartayet, his grandchildren Danny Suarez, Isabel Suarez, Kelsie Dartayet, Erika Goodman, and Karl Suarez; great grandchildren Julia & Christian, Estefano, and Anthony.
Heaven has welcomed an amazing soul and for that we all rest easy.
