In Memory of
James Richard O'Meara
-

James “Richard” O’Meara, Jr., of Hockley, TX passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, surrounded by his beloved sister, wife, and loving members of his church at North Houston Baptist.    He was born on December 5, 1942, in Texas City Texas.

He was the beloved husband of Vicki Hipp-O’Meara for 44 years.  He was the loving and committed father of two surviving sons, James F. O’Meara, and wife Sherry; and Daniel P. O’Meara, and wife Maria.  When his boys were adolescents, he was involved with several of their youth groups, from 1985 Bay Area Christian Church in Clear Lake City, Texas, and Church of Christ in Pasadena.  He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many “adopted” sons of church members who loved to visit with him and glean from his wisdom.

Richard was a self-taught engineer who began his career at Hooker Chemical in up-state New York, and later, an engineer in Houston, Texas for several companies.  He formed his own corporation, Multi-Flux, Inc. wherein he authored several patents that were developed for use in Offshore Drilling, and also in Big Three Industries use in cooling towers.  His application was featured in Chemical Processing Magazine.  Further, he had a number of applications in commercial multi-story buildings and sky-scrapers in the Houston, Texas area.  He left his private owned businesses in 1997 and worked for Mustang Engineering in Houston Texas from 1997-2012.  He retired in 2012.  He and Vicki moved to the country in Hockley, Texas where they lived for 26 years.

Richard was active in church his entire life.  He was raised in First Christian Church of LaMarque, Texas, which was built by his father, Jim O’Meara and his Uncle Sydney.  He graduated from LaMarque High School in 1961, then attended Abilene Christian College before deciding to start his working career.  Richard and Vicki celebrated their 44th anniversary on April 16, 2026.

He and his beloved wife, Vicki O’Meara, met in March 1982, and were married on April 16, 1982, by their pastor and best friend, Palma Bennet.  Their friendship with Palma and his wife, Dink, spanned the years through the day of Richard’s death and continues with Vicki.

Richard had 5 siblings: Lucille O’Meara who preceded him in death, Patricia O’Meara-Selman, Daniel O’Meara, and Pamela O’Meara Pixley, and Peggy O’Meara-Cortez, and had many nieces and nephews.

From Vicki, wife of Richard:  Richard is the kindest, gentlest individual I have ever known.  His heart was very tender toward the Lord Jesus, recognizing the work of Calvery in his salvation, weeping often in expressing his gratitude.  He has always stooped to help those who were brought into their lives who had needs, helping without any expectation of return.  He was a true saint.

One of the things that brought much pleasure in Richard’s life was befriending the young men in his church.  He loved spending time with them, praying for and being prayed for by them, sharing their spiritual growth together, and offering his wisdom of 80+ years.

Richard has always been very humble and low-keyed in all that he did for others.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at North Houston Baptist Church (10420 Grant Rd, Houston, TX 77070). Visitation will be at 9:00 AM and the funeral at 10:00 AM.   Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery (aka Flatonia City Cemetery) at 2:00 PM.
