In Memory of
Jeanne Niel Gilbert
-

Jeanne Niel Gilbert, 47, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 28, 2011, in Katy, Texas. She was born on August 26, 1963, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was an amazing mom, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. Jeanne’s zest for life was contagious and she made us laugh with her quick wit. In addition to being so much fun, she had a huge heart and the strength to match. She showed such grace and dignity through her struggle that she touched all of us. She leaves behind an empty place in our hearts, but a big smile when we think of her.

Jeanne moved to Houston in 1991 where she met and married her soul mate, Tony. While in Houston she worked in marketing for Litwin and Halliburton and prior to that worked in the Financial Services Department at CITGO in Lake Charles and made many friends along the way. After 11 years of working in the energy industry, she decided to stay home and raise her daughter, Ashley, her pride and joy. Always striving to excel, Jeanne then started a drapery business where her gift of decorating was realized and she became a successful home-based business woman.

Jeanne’s biggest love was her family. She leaves behind her husband of 14 years, Tony Gilbert, and daughter, Ashley Gilbert, of Katy, TX; parents Charles and Pat Niel of Lake Charles, LA; sisters Patricia Niel Prebula of Sulphur, LA, and Andrea Niel Sauviac of Dallas, TX; brothers Jim and Charles Niel of Lake Charles, LA; father and mother-in-law Russell and Jane Gilbert of Sugar Land, TX; brother and sister-in-law Brian and Theresa Murphy of Monument, CO; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Al Prebula of Lake Charles, LA, grandparents, Margaret and Kenny Lyles and Lena and Albert Niel, and uncle, John A. Niel.

Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Forest Park, Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A celebration of Jeanne will follow the service at her home until 1 p.m.

A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by Deacon Glenn Viau, will be held at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 1 p.m. 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA 70605. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jeanne’s honor to Memorial Hermann Cancer Research Foundation, 9250 Pinecroft, The Woodlands, Texas 77381.

I write this with a sadden heart. I was introduced to Jeanne recently because we both share the same cancer. The time I spent with her will forever be a special part of me. She was so full of life, beautiful inside and out and above all she loved her family with all her heart! She was a courageous and strong woman and an inspiration to me.
Jeanne is now home and the most beautiful Angel in heaven!
You will be missed but I know you will be waiting for all of us with open arms! I'll miss you.

Tony,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I only knew Jeanne through Mustang events, but I have heard you speak of her often and I know you and her have a great family and a tremendous love. Keep the happy times close to your heart and remember Jeanne will always be with you. She is also with God now in a better place and will be guidance for all of us from now on.

Take care of yourself and your daughter and God Bless all of you.

Tony & Ashley, I was saddened to hear about Jeannie's passing. She was truly a remarkable person and I really enjoyed getting to know her and working with her at KBR. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. She may be gone, but know that she touched so many people during her short life. I know she did mine.

Take care.

Tom

When the world wakes up tomorrow, the sun will rise from the east, crystal dew will sparke, birds, bees, etc. will continue to conduct their lives in ordinary fashion. In the city, horns will blow, tires screech, engines clank, and on and on will go all sounds and routines. In Katy on a certain small street, in a certain house, a women will be missed. A person like Jeanne will only come once, there is no carbon copy to a true masterpiece of humanity.....

The time which we are blessed with in this world is a truly precious one that we must each embrace and use to the fullest. And in our time here, as people weave in and out of our lives, there will always be those who take a permanent place, whose mark is unforgettable and whose presence in our lives becomes a part of the intricate tapestry of our heats.
Jeanne Gilbert was one of these people and the way in which she touched the lives of those around her is a true testament to the belief that angels do indeed walk among us.

Dearest Gilbert Family,
My heart is heavy today. Jeanne was an inspiration to me these last fifteen months and always, always uplifted my spirits! I met Jeanne shortly after my diagnosis while we were both having treatment. Although I did not know her very long, she was very special and will remain so in my heart!

I will miss Jeanne and the joy and laughter she brought into my life. She was an amazing friend who had a wicked sense of humor and optimistic outlook on life. She was a bright light in my life and I am so honored I was able to tell her Goodbye a day before her passing when she expressed her loving friendship for me, but more importantly, to hear her loving appreciation for her amazing husband, Tony, and her loving devotion to her precious daughter, Ashley. She will continue to make me smile and touch my heart with her kind friendship and I will always be inspired by her extreme commitment to her amazing family.

What is man that Thou art mindful of him? We don't know much, but we know this: No matter where we are, no matter what we do, no matter how bleak or frightening our prospects, each and every one of us who believe, each and every day, lies in the same safe and impregnable place, in the hollow of God's hand. Jeanne I know is now in the loving arms of God. She fought the good fight. I hope when my time comes, I am as brave.

Dear Tony and Ashley, I'm so sorry for your loss. I unfortunately lost touch with Jeanne over the past couple of years and went to look for her on the internet only to find news of her passing. Ashley, I know your Mom told you often, but I'll share again... she LOVED you and adored you from the moment you were born. You were everything to her. She always felt you were her biggest accomplishment. I know you will miss her deeply but I believe she will be with you always. She was a remarkable woman who was taken too soon. I am sorry I didn't get to say goodbye and tell her how wonderful she was. I know her family and friends made sure she knew how everyone felt about her. God bless you and your family and may memories of her lovingly embrace you always.
