Many people had the chance to know my father as a good friend, an adviser on life, or a little bit of a jokester… well, maybe a bit more than a little; but his joy and humor in life brought smiles to all, even when life was not as kind to him.

My father was known as many things… a teacher, a mechanic, a carpenter, an engineer, an astronomer, a gardener, a bit of a comic, a friend, a brother, a father, a grandfather, and the husband to my mom; he just believed with a little bit of time and a bit of hard work, nothing is out of your reach, even as he seeked out my mom as his wife to be… but that is a whole other story to be told.

What some of you may not know is that my father has fought for life for a long time. When he was young it was believed he would not become a teenager; he became a teenager and then it was believed that he would not live to be married, to have kids, and grandchildren; but he did.

With all of this, my father created one of his longest going stories I know. That there would be a day that he would enter the body shop and receive a little bit of a tune-up, till one day he would have a whole body replacement, because he expected the doctors to keep him living to the ripe young age of 200. You knew his story was well on its way to becoming life when he was given the gift of a new heart, but there was a bit of a catch to this story now, because my father had a quick rewrite to make… since he was receiving the gift of a heart from a strong young man, my father made sure the doctors knew he would now be requiring them to make him live to 233 years young.

My father did not make it to see his 233th birthday, but he left a life that will live on longer than he could ever dream of. Maybe this was the story he was truly sharing with us all.
