John Rendon Griffin, of Hockley, TX, passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2026, surrounded by his family. John was born in Austin, TX to Kay and Rendon Griffin. He was the youngest of four children. John was considered the “lively” sibling. He was expert in testing his mom and Dad, aggravating his brother, and teasing his sisters. During his childhood years John enjoyed baseball and football, and broke state records in track, during latter years at Northbrook High School. This was a remarkable testament to his drive to push through, after the loss of his big toe in a lawnmower accident at 10 years of age.
After some time at Blinn Jr College, John dabbled in modeling, however, found his niche in outside sales. He eventually went to work for Flint Ink Corporation, alongside his father, Rendon Griffin. John and his brother Mark inherited great artistic abilities and learned custom knifemaking from Rendon. John honed his craft later in life and sold his very original knives. He was featured in Blade magazine and other publications as well. Creativity was his gift! In more recent years he branched out to make very high-end bird houses and ladies’ pendants. John never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people in the local markets where he would sell his crafts.
John met the love of his life, Kathy Ensor, at a Mark Chestnutt concert in Katy, TX. They married in 2008. They shared a love of country life. Horses, chickens, dogs, bunnies, and all wild things were nurtured by them. They took considerable pride in working outside in the garden, landscaping and hosting annual fall parties on their homestead. John was considered a Grill Master!
He gave himself to his blended family and treasured the time with his grandchildren. He loved his Lord Jesus and was a member of Magnolia Cowboy Church. John was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
It is never goodbye but SEE YOU LATER!
