In Memory of
Kathryn Poe Weeks
-

Mom stepped from life into LIFE Tuesday morning, March 30, 2010. One friend said, "It was just like Kathryn to want to spend Easter face-to-face with Jesus." She was born Minnie Kathryn Poe in 1922 in Coldspring, Texas, first child of Annie Love Poe and Frank Edward Poe. Baptized by her maternal grandfather, Judge Drew M. Love, in a spring behind her grandparent's little house in Coldspring, mom's life was watermarked by the passionate love of God and her family. The Poes moved to the Houston Heights in 1928, where Kathryn graduated from Reagan High School, later served as a proud Marine in WWII, and came back to put down deep roots at 1028 East 16th in the Heights. Kathryn worked at Gulf Oil until she retired in 1980 to take care of her grandson, Andrew, and travel the world.

Among those celebrating her life are: daughter Dianne and husband Richard Fielden: grandson Andrew and wife Kyla Brown: and dear sister-in-law Rita Poe, whose 5 children are mom's beloveds. They include: Frank E. Poe, III, wife Angela, and daughters Sarah and Kathryn; Charles Poe, wife Marsha, and children Christina and husband Daniel Bond, son Gregory, and daughter Madeline; Dwayne Poe, wife Gretchen, and daughter Chloe Poe; Laura Poe and loving partner Don Piper; and daughter Lydia Chamberlain, her husband Mike, and son Drew.

Mom's heavenly reunion includes her parents, sister Jacquelyn Paige, adored brother Frank E. (Sonny) Poe II, and many aunts, uncles, and friends who went on ahead. The celebration of her life will be Saturday, April 3, at 1:00 in the sanctuary. Instead of flowers, please send a donation to St. Marks United Methodist Church, 600 Pecore, Houston, TX 77009, 713-861-3104.

Kathryn lives on in all of us! Every time I notice the beauty of a flower, every time I see the sun rise, every time I hear thunder, every time I see a christmas stocking, every time i see the word "joy".... the list is endless. Aunt Kathryn was an unforgettable force that left an impression on everyone she met. I got to become the person I am largely because of her- thank you Aunt Kathryn- you taught me how to love life! Get ready heaven, the party is just starting!

Grandma had a saying about Money: "Save a third, spend a third, and give a third." Like many other aspects of her life she gave much more than a third. She certainly didn't save any of her love. She gave that freely. To know Grandma was to love her and I've never met anyone who knew her that didn't love her.

Grandma will never be forgotten by those that knew her. Her legacy is the love that lives on in the Poe, Brown, and Fielden families.

We love you grandma. I can't wait to see you again. Love, Andrew

Kathryn was the embodiment of LIFE -- she lived what she believed and loved everyone fortunate enough to meet her. To be in her presence was to know courage, joy, excitement, appreciation, anticipation and hope. My life will be forever changed by her love and I count that one of my greatest gifts to have ever received. She will be missed more than most, yet her memory will give us a marker for the days ahead.

Kathryn was my Sunday School teacher for probably 15 years. How much she taught me about living this life for our Lord. She was a wealth of knowledge and love. I remember her saying that her greatest joy was learning a new truth about God. I miss her already.

Kathryn you always had the time to show just how loving a home could possibly be and how never let any problems shadow your love for family and guest. You made me feel so at home and welcome. You always loved to hear where I was in the world and where I was going next, and I always had to let you get my card to change the address so you could keep up with me and my family. As a child and being adopted sometimes you have the inner feeling of not belonging because sometimes it's hard to know where your going if you dont know where you came from, I can honestly say I never had that feeling when I was around you and I would always look forward to seeing you. You always had my little shoe box with the silly string and toys like you had planned that I would stop by from Nannies house. You were the one that no matter what, you had the time for all the children of the family sit down and talk, you love to get down our level and just have fun and we all loved you for that. I never knew anyone that always had a smile on thier face and so much love in thier hart as you. You taught me to love and cherish every moment we have in this life, and I will alway love you for that. God, Family and country was the order of each day and you will be truly missed. Semper Fi Marine.

PS. Give my Daddy a hug for me when you see him.

Poe,

Funny how it feels as if I too have lost an Aunt. I never refered to her as anything but " Aunt Kayhryn ", I'm sure Dodson can say the same. She was just one of many in the Poe clan that I truly enjoyed being around. Heaven has gained new luster by her presence.
