Our first Mother's Day without our loving Mother to guide our way through life. She always thought of others, gave of herself, shared her talents, and enjoyed hosting huge party events, inviting everyone she ever met to join her. She would have one of her favorite polka bands or big band orchestras provide the music as she danced the night away with the love of her life Leonard. She missed celebrating her 102nd birthday by only a few weeks but we know she had a full and wonderful life that took her from her birthplace in Floresville, Tx, to working in the fields of her family farm in Moulton and eventually she moved to Houston after graduation from the Sam and Will Moore Institute. She was the last living member of her family - her parents
Mom was one of a kind. One of the few left of her generation. Her stories will be missed, her wonderful big meals she carefully planned for days and prepared with love, her zest for life included laughing, dancing, of course cooking and a good glass of wine every evening. Most of all Mom will be remembered for the genuine love she shared with all, always inquiring how each family member is doing, if they are healthy, or do they need anything. She never missed anyone’s birthday or anniversary and each holiday was a special event for all to gather and enjoy. Never a day passed that she did not include everyone in her evening prayers that always ended with a hug and kiss for each one of us, “Night, night angel darling. Sleep tight angel darling. God bless angel darling. Night, night”.
And so from our hearts to God’s hands, Mother's Day will be remembered a bit differently after today.
Night, night angel darling. ❤️

She was the last living member of her family - her parents Sophie and Louis, and three younger sisters Dorothy, Shirley and Marilyn. From the day Leonard met LaVerne working as a bookkeeper in the Western Auto Store on Washington Ave he was enamored with her beauty. She and Leonard married during World War II on December 12, 1942. They had three children, Carol LaVerne, Judith Lynn, and last-their son Leonard Vann Lee, then add in a total of 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
