In Memory of
Marjorie Mae Avery "Marge"
-

Marjorie “Marge” Mae Avery, 75, passed away on March 18, 2015 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.  Born September 30, 1939, in Deemston Borough, PA, Marge was the second child to Bertha Virginia and Walter Harry King.  A coal miner’s daughter, Marge grew up in Vesta No. 6, Denbo, PA helping her mother look after her 4 younger siblings.  As the eldest daughter, she learned to cook, clean, and run a household.

Marge married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Louis Avery, in Maryland in 1963.  The duo had 3 children.  With big dreams and even bigger hearts, the two packed up their lives and their children and headed south to Texas in 1972.  Shortly after settling in Houston, Marge found a job as a secretary in Alief ISD where she remained for 37 years.

Marge’s down-to-earth and dynamic personality allowed her to make friends everywhere.  She was a lover of people, and in turn, people loved her.  A devoted wife and mother, the role of “Grandma” came effortlessly.  Being blessed with both a granddaughter and grandson, she was overjoyed at the chance to continue to pass on her love, wisdom, and kind spirit.  While her infectious laughter and gentle soul will be missed by many, her love, compassion, and adoration for life is truly cherished in our hearts.

Marge is survived by her children, Danny David Avery of Houston, Gregory Louis Avery of Sugar Land, and Traci Renee Murdock of Dallas; her grandchildren, Laine Elizabeth Benson Avery and Stephan “Mickey” Michael Avery of Sugar Land; her siblings, Shirley Kathleen Hlebik, Walter David King, and Robin Renee Kolick of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, and her siblings, Kerry Dale Hoover and Joan Marlyn Hixon.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 7720 Boone Road, Houston, TX 77072.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marge’s name may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Traci and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Marge was such a loving and caring person. I have so many high school memories of being welcomed into your home and how your mom made everyone feel loved and welcomed- and well fed. She was a special lady and will be missed by many.

Sincerely,
Jenny Sommer
