Agnes Calvert passed away shortly after midnight, January 14, 2007, after a 2 month illness. She was born Myrtle Agnes Perkins in Sulphur Springs, Texas, July 19, 1909, one of 12 children. She came to Houston at the age of 18 and went to work for the old Jefferson Davis Hospital in the dietary department. Agnes married Harold Calvert on Thanksgiving Day, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Her driving force was her work for her church, Epworth-Parker United Methodist Church. She was active in United Methodist Women and its’ projects. Her compassion for those who needed her was untiring and unending. She is survived by a daughter Amalye, a foster son and daughter, Walter and Joyce Fortune, a foster granddaughter, Janice Fortune, and foster great-granddaughter, Savannah Gresham, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on January 18, 2007 at Epworth-Parker United Methodist Church, 2101 Dismuke Street, Houston, Texas 77023. Visitation starts at 10 a.m., with lunch served at 11 a.m., and funeral service beginning at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Epworth-Parker UMC in her name would be appreciated.
