In Memory of
Olufunke Adeola Alimi
-

A Phenomenal Selfless & Virtuous Woman that will forever be in our hearts

Mrs. Olufunke Adeola Alimi (Nee Ipaye) passed away on August 6th, 2024. Mrs. Olufunke was born on December 13th, 1954, in Lagos, Nigeria, to the late Pa James Ojo Ipaye and Deaconess Rachel Amoke Ipaye. She was the eldest of their children. Before her birth, there had been a prophecy concerning her leadership position, which she undeniably exhibited while alive. Mrs. Olufunke Alimi started school at the All-Saints Anglican Primary School in Fadeyi Lagos, Nigeria. She proceeded to Queens of Apostles Grammar School, Oluyoro Oke Ofa, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, for her secondary education. She obtained a professional secretariat certificate from St Gabriel Commercial School Mokola, Ibadan. She started her first job and career as a secretary at Motorways Nigeria Ltd in Lagos before she met her beloved husband, Mr. Ganiyu Alimi. Mrs. Olufunke and her devoted and loving husband went into several successful businesses together. One of the notable businesses is Gafunk Nigeria Limited. A well-known successful IT company in Nigeria. She was the executive director of Gafunk Nigeria Limited, and she worked hard with her husband to ensure its success.

Mrs. Olufunke lived most of her life in Lagos before she made Houston, Texas her second home several years ago. Mrs. Olufunke was a virtuous wife and a devoted Christian. She attended church regularly, not just as an ordinary member, but was deeply involved in church activities in Nigeria and Houston, Texas. She was known for her compassionate spirit and unwavering generosity. Mrs. Olufunke was a philanthropist and the founder of a charity Organization known as Universal Motherly Organization (UMO). Her Charity organization was one of the vehicles in which she used to touch the lives of the homeless, poor, widowers, orphans, domestic abused women, and underprivileged children both in Houston and Nigeria.

Her passion and conviction for helping people began informally in Nigeria, where she spent her birthdays at orphanages feeding and donating gifts to orphanage children. She also visited the Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH) to donate medical supplies and pay medical bills for patients who needed assistance. On March 12th, 2015, she was recognized and awarded by the Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola for supporting the Lagos State public schools with several computers and school supplies. Olufunke was a friendly and lovable person with an uncommon motherly instinct.

She believed in encouraging anyone she met to achieve their best potential in life. Her unwillingness to accept no and impossibility when helping others or in her own life is what everyone loved the most about her. She was a peacemaker, who worked hard to rebuild relationships between spouses, children, and their parents. When she commits to helping, she does it selflessly with strong conviction, no matter the personal sacrifice it may cost her. Her legacy of selfless service and unwavering kindness will forever be remembered.

The late Maya Angelou, a renowned African American poet, once said “your legacy is every life you’ve touched”. Mrs. Olufunke Alimi’s legacy that everyone shall forever remember is indeed, “every life she touched, she touched for good, selflessly”.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, uncles, nephews, in-laws and an aged mother.

Olufunke's laughter was a melody that brightened our days, and her strength was a beacon of hope in times of need. Keep resting with the Angels of light in the presence of God, your creator. You are so much loved. E sun re. Iya rere. Mother of all mothers.

The family would like to thank everyone who impacted Mum’s life. Thank you all for honoring her to this day.
