In Memory of
Robert Barrier Cloud
-

Robert Cloud, 58, passed away on May 24, 2013.

Robert (Bob to his friends, wife and daughters and wife's family, Bobby to many of his extended family) was a no nonsense, no frills guy who just went around quieitly helping folks with many different fix it projects--big and small. He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on August 26th, 1954 and spent most of his growing up years in Longview, Texas. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1979-1981 in Wisconsin. He received his Eagle Scout award as a teenager, has been both a cub master and assistant scout master. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University in August 1984. He worked as a Software Engineer for several companies throughout his career, most recently for Well Dynamics, then Impact Guidance Systems.

His survivors include
Wife, Gayla Staples Cloud whom he married on June 10th 1983, so they were just over two weeks short of being married for 30 years.
Two daughters, Sarah Katherine Cloud, 27 and Rachel Marie Cloud, 19
One granddaughter Kalyse Noel Dixson, 5 months
Mother: Billie Elaine Meyer Cloud
Sisters: Susan Cloud and Melynda Cloud
Brother: Daniel Cloud.
Immediate family who have preceded him in death are his father Robert Edward Cloud, and two infant daughters Ruth Elaine Cloud and Deborah Jo Cloud.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (16333 Hafer Rd. Houston, TX 77090) on Monday, June 3, 2013. The visitation will begin at 10AM, and the funeral at 11AM. Burial will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

FIX IT MAN

When we first met and my car was broken
He offered to lend a helping hand
Then in his lifetime of service, mostly unspoken,
He became known as the fix it man.
He fixed houses, tvs, dolls, cars, computers, tables, knees,
Dishwashers, programs, kitchen sinks, frowns, and more
He did it for family, friends, bosses, strangers to please
For him life’s purpose was to create, resolve and restore.

But this imperfect mortal domain
Dealt him a disease that began to weaken his eyes
His kidneys, his heart, finally his brain
Yet he still fixed what he could-- continuing to try.
One day his body was damaged beyond repair
So his spirit left this mortal realm behind
But he whispers to us “don’t despair,
For I have now found peace of mind.
A broken body no longer stifles me
To do God’s errand as the fix it man.”
Who knows what needs in heaven he’ll see
And will fix them guided by the Master’s hand.

Your tribute to Bob was very touching, as were earlier poems to your infant daughters. You have had too much of sorrow. We hope the rays of sunshine in your life will increase. Sent with much love.

Happy for the time I could spend with my quick-witted and capable brother-in-law, his mom and sister...
Death in the family is sorrowful -especially when sudden and without time to say goodbye.
Grandpa Sedley would often say at partings (usually after "God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again" had been sung)
"Well, one GOOD thing about saying goodbye is the looking forward to saying hello again." And we shall
In God's time and at Jesus' feet
By His love and grace,
Joe (Gayla's younger brother. Sent from Japan)

Dearest Gayla, words seem to never be enough because they aare not, but they help you know that people care that you have suffered a tremendous loss and want you to feel better, want to in some way with a few words help you feel at least a little better. I could not figure out how to do this the other day. I am home now and decide to check this page again, where I did figure out how to do this. Gayla May GOD be with you and your beautiful family. The services were so eloquent. Bro. Johnson did wonderful in his talk about Bob. I don't think I ever saw him not smiling. I am so sorry. hugs, and GOD bless you and keep you in HIS tender loving care.

sincerely,
Deann and Steve Simmons

I just saw it on FB. Malinda and your Mother probably don't remember me, but we lived on Hoyt Drive and we all rode bikes together for years. We also went to First Christian Church. I remember Bob well being a scout. He was so proud.
Leo Goolsby was my step-father. I am so sorry for your loss. He was always so nice to me. God bless you all.

This is my favorite "Bob Cloud" story...although there are many great memories of Bob. We had all been working pretty intensely on a huge project that was a “must win” for us at work. Ultimately, we did win the contract and as a “thank you” we were all treated to a great dinner at Amerigo’s in the Woodlands.

We were all seated and had ordered our meals and the wait staff was bringing out our orders. Unfortunately, one of the waiters dropped a huge steak on one of the ladies in the party and the steak fell underneath the table somewhere.

Bob to the rescue…he pulled out a flashlight, yes a flashlight, from one of the many pockets in his denim overalls and proceeded to crawl under the table to find the elusive steak. Now Bob had no intention of eating the steak, he was merely trying to help the waiter, who was mortified beyond belief. He gave us all a great laugh when he came out from under the table with his flashlight, the steak and that huge “Bob Cloud” smile.

Just thinking about that story makes me smile. Bob was a great guy and his friendly nature and infectious smile will be missed dearly.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Bob, writing software, and if I had a dollar for every time I asked Bob if Amps * Ohms = Volts, I'd be a rich woman today.

I don't know why I had such a block on such a simple concept, but every time I asked Bob to re-verify, he would not only confirm, but also work out in longhand, a proof to demonstrate how to get there from here! He never rolled his eyes or grumbled at the fact I was keeping him from his own very large list of things to do, or even suggested that I write down this little tidbit of information so I wouldn't have to ask again.

No, Bob could' wait to teach an electrical concept. Even when I teased him, "Bob, you're such a geek", it was a badge of honor he wore with pride, and rightly so. What that man couldn't fix with duct tape or angle iron, didn't need to be fixed.

Bob has to be the most decent and genuine human being that has walked the earth. He is an example we would all be richer for following.

My best memory of Bob will always be the light switches he put in our basement at the Fargo house when you brought your daughter Sarah to meet us, Dad (you'd already met Mom) and, of course, our little daughter Laura. Bob was cheerful, helpful and handy, even out of his usual element in Texas.

It was so funny some years later when Sarah gave Laura a playful push and said "this is to make up for the playful push you gave me when we were babies!"

I'm glad Peter and I could be there for you and hope this late entry will serve as my heartfelt thanks for being a great Sis.

I've known Mr. Cloud for just as long as I knew Sarah, who was my friend back when we were kids. I was not aware that he had passed until I found out online last week. I am saddened that such an intelligent and affable man had to go so suddenly.

When Sarah and I both lived in Townewest, I would stop by her house to hang out or play video games with her. When Mr. Cloud was home, he would come up to me with that warm smile of his and say "Hey, Mr. Andy!" His greeting was so genuine, and I can tell from his demeanor that he really enjoyed having me at their house.

I don't really know how else to close my message to Mr. Cloud and his family, but just know that I will always remember his greeting, and I will smile.
