In Memory of
Theodore "Ted" Griffin
-

Theodore “Ted” Griffin passed away on February 3, 2023, at the age of 87, in Houston, TX.

Ted was born in Rocky River, OH. He graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Math. He also served in the Naval Reserve. While working as an Engineer at Sieberling Rubber Company, he met his soon-to-be wife, Joan. They married in 1963 and had 4 children. Ted worked at Goodyear for several years before moving his family from Ohio to Texas for a job with Cameron Iron Works in late 1980.

Ted enjoyed helping others, fixing things around the house, and working on cars - especially his “Wildfire” kit car that he built when he was in college. He loved reading about history, meeting friends for coffee & donuts, going to car shows, and being on the pit crew for the “Geezers” racing team. He was an animal lover and often took care of his kid’s pets when needed. Ted delighted in attending his children’s and grandchildren’s various events and activities throughout the years. Most importantly, Ted selflessly and wholeheartedly loved his wife, his kids, his grandkids, his extended family, and his friends. In return, he was loved and adored by all of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice & Helen Griffin; sister, Maureen (Lee) McCaffrey; brother John (Bonnie) Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Joan Griffin; sons, Gregg Griffin, Mike (Ursula) Griffin, Tom (Nancy) Griffin; daughter, Julie (Mike) Olfers; grandchildren, Kerry (Courtney) Griffin, Elaine, Jack, Steven, Savannah, Daniel, Andrew, Kyle, and Katie Griffin; 2 “bonus” grandchildren, Gage & Reese Olfers; and several adored nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 10:30 am, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, located at 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079.

Reception will follow at St. Jude Hall, located on the church’s campus, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ted’s honor to the American Heart Association.
