Dema Parker Grant, 81 years of age, entered into the Presence of her Lord last Sunday, October 27th. Dema is a very unique name, suitable for a very unique and special woman. She was born on July 21, 1932 in Fastrill, TX to Jess and Pearl Parker. Dema graduated from Diboll High School in 1947. She earned a degree in accounting at The Piney Woods Business College. Dema worked for Triangle Refineries, which became a part of Kerr McGee, for over 40 years.
Dema was very proud of being an excellent executive secretary. She could type 44 words a minute on a manual typewriter. How many of you learned on a manual? With an electric typewriter, she
could go over 100 words a minute.
Robert Wayne Grant came to Houston as a 15 year old. Dema and Robert met and they celebrated their relationship by being married on Christmas Eve in Diboll. The young couple settled in Houston after Robert's service in the Air Force. They built the family home in 1960 and it is still the family home. The Grant family was active in Advent Presbyterian Church for many years.
Robert and Dema were active and good bowlers. When the bowling balls became too much, they switched to darts. Dema loved playing dominoes with friends and family. She caught Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy just about every day. Dema loved her family. She was devoted to her family and took care of all of the Grants. She wanted, she needed to be taking care others.
Dema is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Robert Wayne; by her son, Robert Wayne, Jr.; by her grandchildren, Michael, David, Brian, Sarah and Christine; and, by her great granddaughter, Kacie. Starting last Sunday, there has been a reunion; Dema with her parents and family, and with her sister, Donnie.
Visitation and Funeral are scheduled for Thursday, October 31, 2013 in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service with the visitation at 9:30 am and the funeral at 11:30 am. Interment will be at the Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
