-

George Sidney Robinson, 91, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024 in Houston, TX surrounded by his loving daughters Roxie and Rhonda. He was born on November 24, 1932, in Gonzales, Texas to Malcolm “Doss” Robinson and Ella Mae Mosley Robinson.

George spent his formative years working hard, swimming in the river, and riding bikes all over town with his best friend, Kenneth Hardcastle. He was a first-string football player at Gonzales High School, where he was voted “Most Popular” and “Most Athletic.” After he graduated from high school in 1952, George attended the University of Texas at Austin on a full scholarship, where he once again excelled at football. He was drafted into the Army in January of 1956, where he served as a Military Policeman and played football – affectionately known as Gonzales Jack Rabbit due to his speed and agility. He was stationed in Japan and was honorably discharged in December of 1957 after a serious football injury. He then attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. Upon graduation, he moved to Waller, TX where he was employed with Waller I.S.D. and Hempstead I.S.D.  His roles included teacher, coach, Assistant Principal, and Director of Transportation and Maintenance. George met his beloved wife of 60 years, Judy Virginia Wollgast in 1962, and they were married in 1963. He later attended Sam Houston State to attain his Masters in Education. George was an avid golfer until the age of 90. He enjoyed watching all sports, but particularly football.

George is survived by his three children, Roxanne “Roxie” Robinson Bean, Rhonda Leah Robinson, and Clinton Dean Robinson, four grandchildren, Jason Whiddon and wife Kelly of Gonzales, Laurel Whiddon and significant other Chris Shelton of Gonzales, Holly Barnhart and husband Rob of Seguin, Jamie McCullough and husband Kevin of West Columbia, 11 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Jessica, Jackson, Lainey, Everly, Lilah, Landon, Brooklyn, Liam, Taylor and Weston. He is also survived by his brother Claude Robinson of Arden, NC and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Judy, his parents, sisters Charlotte Nelson, Joy Mikesh, Doris Hoffman, Beatrice “Kense” Mikesh, Elsie Mae Robinson and brothers Malcolm Doss Robinson, Jr. and Warren Wesley “Billy” Robinson.

I am proud to say that George was my first crush!! He was my dad's cousin and the first memories I have of him was when the army stationed my dad in Japan and of course we came along. One day my dad said we were going to a football game that his cousin was playing for army. We watched a very muddy game and after the game we met some tall guy covered in mud! We decided to go out an eat and when this muddy mess had changed and got clean, this handsome guy shows up and the rest is history! He was just as gracious as he was handsome. He treated me so kind and didn't make me feel like a dumb kid with a crush and that meant so much to a starry-eyed young girl. From that point I looked into what this guy was about. The more I learned the more I loved this special man. After my husband and I moved to Big Gonzales, I found Roxie and was again reminded of what her dad meant to me. I know it is so hard to loose someone you love, yet I do believe that as long as someone is remembered they will never be forgotten. I know for me I will always remember such a wonderful sweet man. My thoughts are with all of y'all.
Love y'all
