With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mr. George Frimpong on November 5, 2023. Born on August 9, 1959, to Stephen Yaw Frimpong and Martha Afua Berhene, George lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his four sons, Kevin, Adrian, Andrew, and Jason, who were his most tremendous pride and joy.
After moving to the US in the early 80s, he attended Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon, before transferring to Texas State University to major in Accounting.
While there, he participated in the Honors Program, was a recipient of numerous scholarships, a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Alpha Chi Honor Fraternity, and Southwest Texas Accounting Club.
Described as cheerful, hard-working, intelligent, and disciplined, George's personality was a beacon of positivity. He was renowned for his academic achievements, notably delivering the commencement speech at Southwest Texas University in 1986.
During his time at Southwest Texas University, he had his first son, Kevin Frimpong. Soon after, he went on to attend Texas A&M for a Master’s of Accountancy.
After settling in Sugar Land, Texas, to work in the accounting group at Coastal Corporation, George married Bernice Frimpong in 1988. One year later, she blessed his life with his 2nd and 3rd sons, Andrew and Adrian, and in
1993, they welcomed their fourth son, Jason.
George started a private certified public accounting business with a colleague in the early 90s until a stroke at the age of 39 forced him to step away from his practice. Although he lost the ability to read, write, drive, and walk, George worked tirelessly at regaining his former capabilities. Within a few years, he was able to return full-time to his dream job as an accountant. Much of his rehabilitation was made possible through the support of his wife, Bernice. Even after an amicable parting of ways in 2012, she devoted countless hours and dedicated patience to the care of George through the final years of his life, for which he was deeply grateful. With her support, George operated as a trusted certified public accountant for decades until he retired this year to focus on his health and recovery.
A cherished member and attendee at Mission Bend United Methodist Church, George's soul was steeped in faith and guided by his love for God's word. His Bible was highlighted and underlined throughout; he reread it time and time again, drawing strength, solace, and wisdom from its pages. George had a deep passion for singing with the church choir and cherished the relationships he formed with fellow choir members.
Much of his inner joy came from making people laugh and smile, and with his wit, you never knew when a joke was coming.
George's most significant legacy is his four sons, whose lives are a testament to George's love, discipline, and wisdom. His passing will be deeply felt by his friends and family, both here and abroad in Ghana. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life he led and the precious memories he left behind.
The family would like to give special thanks to the many caregivers at the Crescent, the Concierge, and his cardiologist, Dr. Duarte.
George is survived by his sons Kevin, Andrew, Adrian, and Jason; his grandson, Henry; his mother, Martha; his brothers Akwasi Asare, Emmanuel Asare, and Stephen; his sisters Grace Ama, Elizabeth, Comfort, Esther Akua, and Pomah; and his elders Kwabena Serbeng, Kofi Toku, and Kwabena Aning and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family members.
