
Sandra South Braswell, 84, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born April 1, 1940, in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of Oscar and Mardell South. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband of 47 years, Joel Henry Braswell "Joe" and her youngest son, Mark Braswell.
Sandra's life was marked by her success and passion as a Realtor/Broker with a career spanning over 35 years in Georgia and in Texas. She owned and operated her own Real Estate Office, Braswell & Associates, becoming an iconic figure in her community. Renowned for her kindness, generosity and wit, Sandra created a work environment that also felt like a family. Her humorous personality never failed to bring joy and laughter to those around her.
An Alumni of Emory University, Sandra's intellectual curiosity was matched by her adventurous spirit. Together with her husband, she traveled extensively, visiting numerous National Parks worldwide with a particular fondness for Alaska. Sandra was an avid photographer with a special love for bears. Her hobbies included bird watching, gardening and entertaining. She always maintained several bird feeders over the years at her home. An avid gardener, Sandra's love for plants and flowers was evident in her beautifully kept yard. She also enjoyed playing Rummikub, dominos and cards with friends. She was known to be quite a hostess for teas, holiday meals and game days. Sandra also devoted her time to her grandchildren and great grandchild, whom she loved very much and actively participated in their lives, celebrating all their achievements.
She is survived by her son and his spouse, Mr. Joel C. Braswell and Phyllis A. Benton; daughter-in-law Michelle Braswell-Verret; grandchildren Matt, Jules, Mary, Taylor, Bart, Jack, Zack, and Kate and great-grandchild, Avery Donahue, and her brother-in-law, Mark Braswell.
