In Memory of
Virginia Rae Sparks Talley
-

Virginia Talley, 87, went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2014. She is survived by her four sons and their spouses -- Richard, Blake and wife Darla, Theron and wife Jill, and Rex, as well as their father, Richard B. Talley. She is also survived by six grandchildren -- Casey, Trey, Chase, Amber, Catherine, and Reed, and five siblings – June Haye, Ruth Motley, John Sparks, Wade Sparks, and Sue Elms.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, John E. Sparks and Velva Grace Sparks, siblings Sophie Harris, Lovie Neely, Billie Hayes and Jerry Sparks, and grandson Bryant Strickland.

Virginia, “Mimi”, had a special zest for life. She was thankful and proud of her modest upbringing on a farm in rural Sweetwater, Oklahoma – the third of ten children. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a genuine, unique, fun-loving, strong, and caring person who always put others’ needs ahead of her own. Mimi was both cool and elegant with a chic style all her own. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, making each child and grandchild feel like her “special” one. Mimi trusted God and always knew he was watching over her. She was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77027. Donations honoring Virginia can be made to: St. Luke’s Student Ministries, P.O. Box 22013, Houston, TX 77227-2013.

My mom was telling me how amazing the Talley boys are and she said, "Virginia raised her boys right!"

I will remember Aunt Virginia as a classy, gorgeous, outgoing woman who welcomed everyone with her smile and loving arms. She always seemed so happy and comfortable at the family farm reunions. God bless and comfort her loving family.

I have located information concerning my dear childhood friend, Virginia, too late to enjoy meeting her in this world. I will look forward to seeing her when we meet with our Savior. Virginia and I had some wonderful times as near neighbors. I lived in Mayfield and summertimes were spent walking or riding horse back to visit. Often during the school year we rode the school bus to spend the night together. Sleeping quarters were close but lots of fun times. Sometimes Mary Sue joined us. Virginia was a year older than I but we worked up a friendship early in our school years. One incident that I recall was us demonstrating at a county fair how to make a nest and set a hen to hatch chickens. She was a fun girl and kind to all.
