Major General Felix A. Davis of Humble, Texas passed away on October 17, 2006 at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary B. Davis; children: Jarrie D. McCarty and her husband Dan McCarty of Katy, Tx; Patrick F. Davis and his wife, Cathy Davis of Boerne, TX; grandchildren: Daniel McCarty II and his wife Lisa McCarty of Katy, Kelly McCarty of Austin, TX, Sunny McCarty of Houston, TX; Drew Davis and wife Angela Davis of Lafayette, LA, Rachel Davis Crowe and husband William Crowe of Pipe Creek, TX, and Rebecca Davis of Bryan, TX; great grandchildren: Daniel McCarty III, Hannah Rose McCarty, Abigail Davis, Lucy Davis, and Heath Crowe. He is also survived by nephew David Conner, niece Nancy Conner Beatty and their families. He was preceded in death by mother Alma Chrysty, father Worth Albert Davis, son F.A. Davis, Jr., and his first wife of 38 years Dorothy Conner Davis.
Gen. Davis was a native of Houston, Texas dating back to 21 June 1917. He attended school in the Houston ISD until he quit in the 11th grade to join the US Navy in 1934. After serving three years in the Navy aboard the USS Cole, the USS Pensacola and the USS New Orleans, he received a ”Navy At Large” appointment to the US Naval Academy. After his freshmen year, in 1939, he returned to work in the construction industry with the Jesse H. Jones Co. On May 8, 1942, based upon his previous service and heavy construction background, he was directly commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Corps of Engineers, US Army. He served in the Alaskan and China Burma India theatres in WWII. He returned to Houston and entered the USAR in 1947. During the Korean War, the 432nd Engineer Construction Battalion, which he commanded was activated and sent to Germany. Two years later he returned to USAR status and his construction business. Additional assignments included Special Staff duty in the Pentagon and culminated as the Commanding General of the 75th Maneuver Area Command from 1966 to 1975. On May 8, 1977 he was transferred to retired status, AUS.
Gen. Davis was known for his love of family, friends, sense of humor, generosity, leadership, and ability to make decisions. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Kingsland Baptist Church 20555 Kingsland Blvd Katy, TX 77450 at 11 AM on October 25th followed by interment and military honors at National VA Cemetery in Houston, TX at 2:15 PM.
