In Memory of
George Victor Wade Jr.
-

George Victor Wade, Jr. born in Victoria, Texas, passed quietly on April 28, 2011.

Mr. Wade was a resident of The Westwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Houston, Texas.. At the Center he was well liked and enjoyed by the staff and fellow residents. He was crowned the Center’s King of Mardi Gras for 2011. Mr. Wade never thought of himself as being 87 years old, but rather more like a 40 years, at least in his mind. On one occasion when a relative treated him to some “Chicken McNuggets” from an area McDonalds, he did not hesitate to say that he wanted “chicken with bones”.

During his time on this earth he served in the Army, World War II, volunteering at the age of 20. Upon his return from the army it is a little known fact that he was a part of Victoria history. The local paper, The Victoria Advocate, proclaimed “For the first time in Victoria’s history, eight negroes are candidates for the Associates of Fine Arts certificates from Gross branch of Victoria College”. George V. Wade was one of the eight.

George V. Wade, Jr. lived for some 20 years in Los Angeles California, and later returned to reside in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his only sibling, a sister, Corrine Wade Henry, and mother Myrtle E. Mumphord.

Loving care and concern was given by his nephew, Julius Gordon and his family, wife Jacqueline, daughters Leslie and Denise, and Noel, a family friend.

The family wish to express their gratitude for care and comfort the staff afforded Mr. Wade during his stay at the Westwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

The family also thanks the Beresford Funeral Service staff for their compassion during this period of sadness.
