Hovanes Sahagian loved his Lord Jesus Christ. He also loved his wife of 60 years, Oustian, his sons, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends. He was a great man, a faithful servant of God and an inspiration to everyone he met. He survived and escaped religious persecution in Turkey, lived as a refugee in Lebanon and then started a new life for his family in America.
He came to America with his wife, 6 children and $50 in his pocket. He started without a job or money and in a new culture where he did not know the language. Through God’s blessings and his own hard work and perseverance he ended up successfully self-employed with a prosperous family. Hovanes Sahagian lived the American Dream.
He was a great handy-man and a jack of all trades. His skilled hands could install tile floors, build walls and grow beautiful gardens. He even helped place the cross on top of
the very church in which we are sitting. He would often impart wisdom starting with the phrase “Honey, I show you…” Anyone who knows him knows about his wonderful sense of humor. He always made us laugh.
He was a man of thoughtful action and always taught us to make up your mind and do what is right, no matter the cost, without ever letting anyone sway you. He was a man who taught us to never be afraid.
He lived as he died: strong, brave, unafraid and trusting in the Lord whole heartedly. He will be truly missed.
Hovanes Sahagian is survived by his wife of 60 years, Oustian Sahagian, his two sons and four daughters, eighteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces:
