John S. Dudar of Houston passed away October 29, 2010. He was 82. He courageously battled cancer for two decades.
Born September 3, 1928 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Mary and Harry Dudar, he earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master’s and PhD degree in Geology from the University of Michigan. His career in the oil and gas industry eventually brought him and his family to Houston Texas where they have lived for 45 years.
A devout Catholic, John actively contributed to his church and community through many volunteer activities. He served the sick and elderly as a Eucharistic minister and lay leader for more than 30 years, joyfully bringing comfort to the sick and needy.
He is survived by his wife Margaret (Peg) of 54 years, and their four daughters, Margaret Spellings, Nanette Lawson and husband John of Alexandria Virginia, Mary Dudar of Austin, Texas, and Ellen Dudar of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren Mary and Grace LaMontagne, Thaddeus and Jackson Lawson, and Brian Benedict. Additional survivors include his sisters Lillian Hearn and husband John of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada and Christina McAuley and husband Doug of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents as well as his brother William Dudar and sister Nettie Dolinski.
A vigil will be held on Tuesday, November 2 at 4:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service on Wednesday November 3 at 10:00 a.m. Both events will be held at St. Edith Stein Catholic Church located at 3311 North Fry Road in Katy, Texas.
In lieu of flowers or remembrances, the family requests that donations be made for a memorial scholarship fund in his honor. Contributions may be made payable to Dudar Donations at 1602 Belle View Blvd. #1040 Alexandria, Virginia 22307-6531.
