In Memory of
Richard Delmon Turns
-

Delmon Turns, age 56, of Houston, Texas, passed away from complications following surgery September 4, 2011, at North Cypress Medical Center, Cypress, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones.

Delmon was born May 27, 1955, in Dallas, Texas to Raymond Dial and Roselyn LaTour Turns. He is survived by his daughter, Chelsea Turns of Cypress; brothers, Raymond Dial "Skip" Turns, Jr. and wife Mindy of Colleyville, and Ronald Dale Turns and wife Joyce of Euless; niece, Misty Turns of Austin; former wife, Rhonda Turns of Cypress; and numerous extended family and friends, including his extended family Judy Sutherland of Arlington and the Reed family members of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Delmon graduated from W.H. Adamson High School, Dallas, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. His career was in Human Resources, specializing in compensation and benefits. He was a long term employee of Occidental Petroleum, where he served as the Director of Executive Compensation and Benefits. Delmon’s career in Human Resources also included work at Dresser Industries, Halliburton, and consultant work in the oilfield service industry in California and Houston. It was during his tenure with Occidental that Delmon moved to Thousand Oaks, California and where the joy of his life, his daughter Chelsea, was born. His fondest family times with Chelsea were spent in California; many special times and travel adventures were also shared there with the Dyer’s, his close friends and “California” family.

Delmon most enjoyed spending time with his daughter Chelsea, as all with whom he spoke would most assuredly have known. He was a loving, compassionate father and brother. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Delmon was always ready to play a round of golf with his friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was humble in that he did not look for acknowledgement for the good things that he did. In Houston as a member of AA, Delmon helped many others and was proactive in his work with those dealing with addiction and recovery.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville, Texas; Dr. James Schierling officiating; arrangements made under the care and guidance of Beresford Funeral Service, Houston. Memorial donations in Delmon's name may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left for the family by clicking "Sign Guestbook - Provide A Tribute" below.

Dear Rhonda, Chelsea and Family,

Delmon and I met in 1988 when I moved to Southern California to take a job with Aetna. Occidential Petroleum was one of my accounts and Delmon was their Compensation and Benefits guy. We became friends as well as business associates and stayed in touch the past 33 years. I thoroughly enjoyed our relationship and particularly treasured his practical way of looking at the world as well as his wonderful sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you cope with his passing.

I am truly saddened to hear of Delmon's passing, he was the best man at my wedding over 37 years ago a close friend at Adamson High School, I have not seen him or talked to him in many years but recently communicated with him on our high school My Life page. I have thought about him often. My deepest condolences to Delmon's family, I will always remember riding with him in his brother's blue green corvette back in high school. Rest in Peace Delmon.

I was shocked and saddened to learn today that Delmon was no longer with us. I worked for Delmon for about 3 years; and in that time, I never heard him speak a cross word towards anyone or about anything. Instead, he handled all matters with humor and tact. He was the best boss ever. We kept in touch over the years, and his love for Chelsea and his entire family was often expressed in his emails (and the occasional phone call). My sincere condolences to all who knew him.

Delmon grew up just down the street. We played football, basketball, and cards with Stuart Sharrock. I cannot communicate how much I appreciated his friendship and I will miss him. May God bless him for the good that he has done and let him know we all loved him!
