In Memory of
William E. Pierrard
-

William (Bill) Pierrard went home to be with our Lord on Good Friday, March 25, 2016. Bill was born September 16, 1925 in Waco, Texas to Jesse Francis Pierrard, Sr. and Thelma Gibbons Pierrard. Bill spent several of his childhood years in Waco, before moving to Ft. Worth, Texas. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Ft. Worth in 1942. Soon after graduation, he volunteered for the Army Air Corp and was stationed in The Azores, Portugal where he was a radio operator.

After the war, he returned to Ft. Worth, and married Patricia Louise Pollard on November 25, 1948. He attended Texas Christian University, graduating with a degree in Economics and Psychology in 1950. Bill and Pat moved to the Dallas area in the early 1950’s where Bill worked for Honeywell Corporation and finally Rockwell Collins until retirement.

Bill had many hobbies throughout his life and was always very young at heart. He enjoyed scuba diving, building and flying model airplanes and trains, fishing, water skiing, shooting and many more activities. Bill also served as a Dallas County Reserve Sheriff for several years in addition to his job at Rockwell Collins. The hobby he loved the best however was being involved in every aspect of Amateur Radio operation. He became a licensed Amateur Radio Operator at a young age and managed to make a career of it beginning with his job at Collins Radio. His call letters were K5JHP. As a ham radio operator, he made friends around the world and even communicated with the astronauts. He also traveled the world during his career working and visiting such countries as Morocco, Australia and Egypt.

In 2005 Bill and Pat moved to Houston, Texas to be close to family. Bill loved to use his skills and experience as a radio operator in serving his community in times of need. When Hurricane Ike struck Galveston and Houston in 2008 cutting off communications, he helped man an emergency communication center set up in a local hospital.

Bill lived a long and fulfilling life outliving many of his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Thelma G. Pierrard, brother, Jesse F. Pierrard, Jr., and his father, Jesse F. Pierrard, Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Pollard Pierrard, daughter Catherine Ann Linden and son-in-law, Peter N. Linden, Jr., 3 grandchildren, Peter ‘Nicholas’ Linden III and his wife Caressa Anne Linden, Michelle Linden Watson and Michael Ryan Linden. I have known Bill as a ham radio friend since about 1980. He was very well educated in the realm of radio communications. He was a member of the "Possum Trappers" social group that meets each evening on 3.963Mhz. We also shared the interest of communicating using very low power and we belonged to several of the same organizations.. 73 Bill, CUL

Go in peace, Bill ... May God be with you.

Bill, or J-HIP as we called him (from K5 J-HP was a true friend. I first met Bill in 1976 when I first became a HAM. He was a mentor to me and several other new Hams, helping us with tips and installing antennas.
I traveled over a large part of the US selling radio antennas and accessories and Bill traveled with me for 2 or 3 years. It was a real pleasure to spent many hours on the road with him visiting hamfest in 12 or 13 states.
I will always remember "Old J-HIP"

I knew Bill for a short time but it was long enough to know how great he was. The best moments I had with Bill was at the gun range and when he visited with me at the military museum I work with. I will truly miss Bill and his wisdom.

I've known Bill over the years as the father-in-law of my good friend Pete Linden. Bill was always an effusive and friendly man - always up on the issues and ready, willing and able to engage in an interesting discussion. While I didn't spend very much time with him, that which I did was always a pleasure. May the peace of God attend him now.

Bill Pierrard was my Uncle Bud. His brother was my father. We always looked forward to visits from Uncle Bud, Aunt Pat, and Cousin Cathy. Uncle Bud was always funny; he knew more funny stories than one can imagine. He was always solicitous - he wanted to know if there was anything that was needed. He was well-read, and sharpened his knowledge on a daily basis, I'm sure. I can't imagine a topic he couldn't discuss. If you asked his opinion, you got it, and you knew it was straight-shooting.
One-of-a-kind! describes Uncle Bud.
May he rest in peace.
