In Memory of
Cynthia Fletcher Hugele
-

Cynthia Fletcher Hugele was born June 9, 1953, and passed away April 1, 2017, in her home in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Jim Hugele, her three children, Rachael Walker, Michael Agricola, and Sarah Agricola, her five grandchildren; Ethan, Teralynn, Elise, Hayley, and Benjamin, and her dog, Chandler. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Adeline Whitting.

Cynthia was born to Stuart Fletcher and Agnes Drury Fletcher in Houston in 1953. She pursued and obtained her nursing degree and began working as a registered nurse in various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and home health services. She and her first husband moved to the Beaumont, Texas area, where they had three children. Eventually, they separated, and Cindy continued to focus on her career, her children, and caring for others in the nursing field.

In 2001, Cindy met Jim Hugele in a date arranged by her God mother. The two continued to date, and eventually married in 2003 to reside in Houston. Cindy continued to work in the medical field. Over the past few years, she would talk passionately about the population she served in the Hospice setting, and the fulfillment her position provided to her personally. She talked about helping the people in her care transition out of this world, and how she felt a sense of contentment knowing she helped her patients and their families with the end stage of life.

Cindy prided herself on being a gifted nurse who helped numerous patients and families throughout her life. In one letter, written by a family member of a patient receiving hospice services, it was stated, “People like Cindy restore my faith in the human race, which has so often disappointed me. Her devotion and loving concern for her patients is immeasurable. You have in her, a rare and precious spirit which makes the lives of those that suffer, somehow, bearable. We really do not know how we would have survived this year without Cindy’s kindness and her tireless efforts in enabling (my uncle) to die with his dignity.”

Throughout her life, Cindy was also a gifted gardener, whose knowledge about plants exceeded most. Each spring she enlisted her families help in planting a large number of seeds and vegetables for her annual garden. She enjoyed visiting with family, and she had a keen sense of humor as well as a fluency in sarcasm. Cindy was always available to lend an ear, and she enjoyed being able to assist others with their difficulties. Cindy has remained very close to her children, and she found joy in visiting with her grandchildren. Some of her favorite times were spending time with Jim, her husband, whom she always voiced her appreciation at finding. She always spoke her mind, and it was difficult not to know how she felt about a subject. Cindy was a one-of-a-kind wife and mother, and she will be eternally missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the Chapel of Beresford Funeral Service.  The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm.  Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

Cindy has been my dear and faithful friend for 41 years. I will so miss her wisdom, her laugh and her love; she was always there for me no matter what. She was so smart too, a great nurse. I will see you again my good friend , in
Heaven. She sits with the angels, no more pain, no more suffering, no more tears.

I remember evacuating for Hurricane Rita and getting stuck in all that traffic in Houston for around 16 hours, We were at our limit, dehydrated, hungry and so very tired. God got us to Cindy and Jim's home. They took us in, fed us (from Cindy's garden), gave us a place to rest and gave us the gas they had on hand to continue our journey. I remember how gracious she was and how sweet. We literally took over her home for awhile. My connection to Cindy was that she was my brother-in-law's ex-wife and my sister was one of the refugees! It made no difference to Cindy and I will always appreciate her warmth and kindness. I know she will be missed and my prayers continue for her and for all of the family and friends. God Bless you all with comfort and peace. Love you.

I wish I'd gotten to know Cindy better than I did. She stayed pretty busy and lived too far away for most of the time we were acquainted but the times I visited her she was a very gracious hostess and had an easy way with people...putting THEM at ease. I loved her self-deprecating humor and sarcasm. She was a very quick-witted lady and I liked that about her. I also appreciated her selfless love for her children and grandchildren. She will long be missed by many people.

Cindy was my best friend in 5th grade
I never would have survived my transition from a small town to the big city without her friendship. Wish we had never lost touch. Rest in peace, dear old friend.
