
Dennis Edward Maxson, 61, of Houston, Texas, passed away January 22, 2016 at the Regent Care Facility in Kingwood, Texas after a long battle with cancer. He was born April 29, 1954, in Celina, Collin County, Texas, the youngest child of Claud Lee and Winnie Juanita (Francis) Maxson.
Dennis attended early school in Prosper and transferred to the Celina, Texas school system in 1967. He graduated salutatorian of his senior class in Celina in May of 1972. Dennis entered Texas A&M University after High School graduation and worked with Otis Engineering Corporation in a Co-op employment while he was attending the university. He continually received a “distinguished student” designation while attending there. In 1977, he graduated from A&M University magna cum laude with a degree in mechanical engineering.
After graduation, he started work with Atlantic Richfield Co. (Arco Oil and Gas) in Houston and Midland, Texas as an operations and reservoir engineer. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME. In 1980, he joined The First National Bank of Midland’s Energy Division as a petroleum engineer and was promoted to an Assistant Vice President & Senior Petroleum Engineer in 1982. In 1984, he was a petroleum engineer for Sipes, Williamson & Associates, Inc. in Midland for three months before he left to enter work involved in spreading the gospel in May of 1984. He moved from Midland to Dallas in June of 1987, and in April of 1988 obtained work as a mechanical engineer/Design Engineer II with Otis Engineering Corporation in Carrollton, Texas. From 1993 to 1998, Dennis worked as a Design Engineer for Hydrolex, Inc. in Longview, Texas, then later working on his own as a Consulting Engineer for Maxson Engineering Company in Longview. In 2003, Dennis began working in the Oil Industry Services in FMC in Houston, Texas until illness resulted in his retirement.
During all of Dennis’s working years, he especially thrived in the church work he was able to do. He was diligent and willing to teach others in understanding the Word of God. This was a mission for him and he willingly and with determination, sought to teach the bible. He was a member of the Church of Christ and attended College Park Church of Christ in Conroe, Texas.
Dennis is survived by his siblings, Clifford Maxson and wife Sue of Celina, Texas, Dwight Maxson and wife Gayle of Denton, Texas, Janis Maxson of Celina, Texas, and Philip Maxson and wife Linda of Garland, Texas; nephews, Kevin Maxson and wife Corinia of Denton, Texas; Chuck Baker, Chris Baker and Stephen Maxson all of Garland, Texas; nieces, Debbie O’Neal of Alabama and Laura Kirk and husband Allen of Bayfield, Colorado and other extended family members. He also leaves many friends and loved ones who cared for him during his illness.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Claud Lee Maxson and Winnie Juanita (Francis) Maxson.
Visitation will be Friday evening, January 29, 2016, with funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016, both at College Park Church of Christ, 17612 FM 1314, Conroe, Texas.
