In Memory of
Frances Marie Pequeno Lockett
-

Frances Marie Pequeno Lockett died peacefully Aug 14 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving children and sister. Mother was born in Bryan, TX, on Feb 6, 1931, to Irma and John Pequeno. Raised in the East End of Houston, she graduated from Milby High School in 1949 with honors and she maintained and cherished her many school friendships. She married D. Gordon Lockett in 1950 and they shared a 45 year marriage and six children until Dad’s passing in 1996. She had fond memories of their many homes in Texas as well as Maracaibo, Venezuela, Lafayette, LA, and their retirement in Ajijic, Mexico. We absolutely adored our mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend in every way. Frances is survived by her sister Betty Pequeno; her sons Max of WY; John and his wife Patsy of Singapore; and Peter and his wife Cathie of College Station; and her daughters: Melinda Leon; Louisa Burk and husband Jerry, and Mary Barr and husband Paul, all of Houston. 18 Grandchildren including Mindy’s daughters Corey and Jerrica; John’s children Dylan, Wesley, and Samuel; Louisa’s son Mason; Mary’s sons Hunter and Fischer; Peter’s children Stephanie, Joseph, Shane, Katie, and Grace. Her many grandchildren also include Clarissa Lockett, Joshua and Jim Burk, Jennifer Eastridge, and Jacy Barr. 3 Great Grandchildren are Philip Harris, Logan Lockett, and Skye Eastridge. Special nieces and nephews include Mark and Lynda Hegman, Chris Hegman, and Lisa and Larry Williams and their families. Our respects will be paid to Mother with a Rosary on Friday, August 17, at 7:00 p.m. followed by visitation from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft, Houston 77096, 713-729-0221. I love my Godmother, Aunt Francis. She was always there for me and my brothers and my Mom and Dad. There were two calls in my life that I absolutely hated to make. The first was to call my Mom when my Dad passed away, and almost with equal pain the day I had to call Aunt Francis when my Mom died. She somehow made it easier and no mater how much I aged, she still could put her arms around me and tell me that she loved me. I praise God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the Holly Spirit for the life of Aunt Francis and I pray for healing for the rest of the family.

Aunt Frances was always the epitome of style and grace to me. She embraced me as she would one of her own grandchildren and was the best friend my Granny ever had. Her cute laugh and reassuring pat of your hand always let you believe that things would be okay. Words can't express the great effect her love had over me. I will truly miss Aunt Frances and my condolences go out to the rest of my extended family- I love you all.

Many words come to mind in describing Frances as she was an extraordinary person. Words however are not enough for the mark she left on this earth to those she met and were a part of her life. Frances gave to others without a thought for her own wants or needs. As she will be greatly missed, her memory and strength live on in our hearts forever. Frances leaves behind a strong legacy in the family she created and to her, the world was her family as well. This legacy will give us all strength to continue without her understanding and sage advise but we can take comfort in knowing she will be guiding us from heaven above. To you Frances I raise my glass of red wine and my mind dances to the sound of Mexican music in tribute to your memory. We are all better for knowing Mother and she will live on in our hearts forever. Adios mi Madre!

Aunt Frances left an indelible impact on me, and her unconditional love was truly awe-inspiring. She always treated me as one of her own, and I will miss her beautiful soul dearly. I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to see her in May when I came for a visit in Texas, and for allowing me to embrace her one last time. I pray for her family and for all of those who were blessed with knowing her. I love you Aunt Frances.

> I met Frances here at The Manor... We shared a love of books and exchanged many... The last book she wanted me to read was "The Kite Runner."
When I returned it Frances said, "Wasn't it sad?" We both agreed the story was sad but it was a very good book...
Weeks later, as I was checking out my purchase at a bookstore, I noticed some attractive bookmarks announcing that The Kite Runner was being made into a movie to be "in theatres November 2007." I took one for Frances. I knew she would be pleased; perhaps we could go see the movie together...
But, Alas, it was not to be. Before I could see her again, her illness had taken her away from The Manor.
The bookmark remains and shall be my treasured keepsake, reminding me of the blessing it was to have known such a sweet and gentle friend as Frances...

From the time Jerry and Louisa moved into our lives, and I first met Frances, I always felt as though she was surely the Princess of some exotic far away Spanish domain. She carried herself with the style and grace befitting of only the most noble of families. From the very first meeting, whenever I would see her and give her a hug, I felt a love from her as though I were one of her own children. Her soft voice, and genuine warmth had a way of just washing over you. It is not often that someone passes outside of your immediate family that leaves you with such an empty feeling inside, but Frances' passing certainly has for me. My deepest sympathy go out to Frances' family, as I know she will be missed greatly.

I will miss her hugs.

Frances Lockett was a true inspiration to us all. Her style and grace goes unmatched by anyone I have ever met. She was an extordinary mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Although I did not come into her life until I was about 7, she always treated me as if I was one of her own grandchidren. I am truly blessed that my daughter Skye was able to know and love her Granny Lockett. She will live in our hearts and memories forever. We love you Granny Lockett.

Dear Frances,
(my second mommy growing up) I have so many wonderful years of memories, stories, laughs, jokes and tears that are all held tightly in a very special place in my heart of you. You were truly La Reyna de tu casa in the most elegant and feminine way a lady can be. My words that describe you are Regal.....sophisticated.....strong......patience of a saint....a loving teacher of right from wrong and good from bad you have so graciously over the years passed to all your children and their friends. As I look through photos and memoriabila I watch tus hijos, mejores amigos, trabajando con amor y dependencia. You and Gordon now together in peace should smile at the love, admiration and respect all your children have for each other. When I see you next I want to hear " hello darling" because those are the two words I could count on woud always come lovingly form your your sweet lips. Give Gordon a kiss for me. I will help watch over your precious family.
Rest In Peace. I Love you

My memories of Frances (and Gordon)can be summed up in two words - All Heart. Although our visits were short, either in Hualahuises or in Houston, it always gave me a warm feeling of love and caring from true family members. I always enjoyed hearing of the conversations between Mom and Frances, and how the family was doing. Deepest sympathy to my cousins - she truly will be greatly missed.

Aunt Francis was an incredible roll model for a young girl growing up to have. She was a very Christian woman, a great wife, a wonderful mother, and even better grandmother. Everything a young girl wants to be when she grows up. Aunt Francis left a huge imprint on my life that I will carry with me constantly. I will love her always and miss her daily.

I didn't know Mrs. Lockett very well. I only met her recently at a luncheon reunion of Mindy's high school friends. She was a dear, sweet woman and I so admired the loving way she took care of her daughter. I know she will be greatly missed.

Frances will be greatly missed at The Manor. I don't think this world has many people like her left. She was truly a wonderful Christian, her children and grandchildren are testimony to that. There is great joy and celebration in heaven this week.

Hey guys! Remember me?? I just wanted to let you know that your parents were always so good to me!! I will never forget them. When I didn't have a babysitter Frances always made room for one more kid in that house!! What a wonderful woman! ...and I'll never forget that hang ten foot on her gas pedal in the VW Bug...or watching Dialing for Dollars while she was on the crazy exercise belt machine. You guys take care. Much love!

We will greatly miss seeing Frances at Louisa & Jerry's house. She was a wonderful, sweet, kind, loving, gracious lady.
I can't remember the exact circumstances, but Frances & Mindy were here at Lake Conroe at our house and Frances said something that I have thought about alot over the years but especially during this difficult time for your famiy
She said "Louisa is my most tenderhearted child". I have found that to be a very
true statement of Louisa's character. I know Louisa will feel her Mothers loss for the rest of her life. But what wonderful memories she'll have. Our deepest sympathy to all of your family, with an extra bit of love for Louisa, Jerry & Mason. God watch over ya'll. Love & Hugs Lil & Jim Burk

THE FIRST TIME I MET FRANCES AND GORDON IT WAS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND THEY WERE HAVING A BIG FAMILY GATHERING AND THEY INVITED VES & ME , JIM & LIL & DANA TO COME TOO. I WAS SO EMPRESSED HOW MUCH FUN THEY ALL HAD TOGETHER. THEY PLAYED ALL KINDS OF GAMES BUT THE ONE THAT WAS THE MOST FUN WAS WHEN THEY DRUG OUT THIS BIG JUMP ROAP WITH ONE PERSON AT EACH END TO TURN IT FOR PEOPLE TO JUMP. I DON’T KNOW IF IT WAS LOUISA OR JERRY THAT TALKED ME INTO JUMPING BUT IT SURE WAS FUN. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE LIVING IN COLUMBUS OHIO AT THAT TIME.

SINCE THEN I GOT TO KNOW ALL OF THE LOCKETT FAMILY AND ENJOYED SEEING A LOT OF FRANCES & MINDY EVERY WINTER WHEN I FLY TO TX FROM IOWA FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I WILL THINK OF FRANCES AND MINDY EVERY TIME I WATCH “DANCING WITH THE STARS” AS WE WATCHED IT TOGETHER A FEW TIMES,AND WE ALL LOVED THAT PROGRAM.

I’M SORRY I COULD NOT BE THERE FOR THE ROSARY AND FUNERAL SERVICE BUT MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS WERE RIGHT THERE WITH YOU ALL THE TIME.

MAX, JOHN & PATSY, PETER & CATHIE, MINDY, LOUISA & JERRY, MARY & PAUL I PRAY THAT GOD WILL HELP YOU THROUGH THESE TRYING DAYS.

I LOST MY MOTHER WHEN I WAS 20, SO I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS. YOU HAVE SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES TO TALK ABOUT AND KEEP HER MEMORY ALIVE.

BETTY, MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU, I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU WHEN I COME TO TX.

TO ALL THE GRANDCHILDREN AND COUSINS I KNOW YOU WILL MISS YOUR “GRANNY” BUT I BET YOU WONT FORGET HER, SHE WAS SO LOVING TO EACH ONE OF YOU.

GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU . MAGGIE BURK
