James "Richard" Bell, 76, was called Home to Glory on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2015, while surrounded by his loving family and treasured friends.
Born in Houston, TX, the second of three sons to Ivan Bruce Bell and Maxine Mae Apperson Bell on December 19, 1938. He attended Allen Military Academy and graduated from Texas A&M, Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1960.
He retired from the Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville, TN and returned home to Houston in 1998, where he selflessly and joyfully served at Houston's First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Stacy Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandy; his two daughters, Janet Taylor and Lisa Diehl, husband, Bryan. Grandchildren, Christopher Diehl, Kevin Diehl, Laura and Travis WalkingStick, Christianne Taylor, Austin Taylor, and Victoria Taylor. Great-granddaughters, Edyn Diehl, Kylee and Ryan WalkingStick.
He also leaves behind brothers, Russell Bell and Robert Bell, and many other extended family and treasured friends.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 10:00 on Monday, February 9, 2015 in the Chapel of Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway. A reception will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to HFBC Mission 1:8 Project or Living Water International.
