In Memory of
Kerney H. McCormick
-

Kerney H. McCormick, Sr. passed away peacefully at home in Houston, TX.

with family present on February 1, 2017. Surviving are his three sons, Mack and wife Linda, John and wife Barbara, and Tracy McCormick. Kerney also has two special nieces, Jane Cappelletti of Bellingham, WA., and Rebecca Robinson of Edmond, OK.

A native of Laurel, Mississippi, he was a graduate of the George S. Gardner High School and the University of Mississippi.

As a boy growing up in Laurel, he enjoyed scouting and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Enlisting in the V-5 Naval Aviation program in November of 1942, he served as a marine Corp Fighter pilot for the remainder of WWII.

While still on active duty he married Kathleen Campbell also a Laurel native. Kathleen preceded him in death in 2006 after 61 years of marriage.

Kerney enjoyed people and made friends easily. The trust he earned in his sales career with Burrough’s Corporation helped him advance up the management ladder which also involved moving his family around the country. From the beginning of his time with Burrough’s in Houston, his advancement took them to Albuquerque, NM., back to Houston, west to Saratoga, CA., across the country to Rochester, NY., and back to Houston. The shared interest Kerney had with his wife in collecting antiques all along the way made for quite an accumulation. Upon arriving at their scaled down home on the final move back to Houston, the moving company driver made a memorable quote, “ It ain’t going to fit”.

Kerney decided to try sales in Real Estate after his retirement, which led a friend to remark, “Kerney does the world really need another realtor?”

Kathleen said he did it just to hang out with the women.

Kerney was a member of the Second Baptist Church Beacon Bible Study class. He enjoyed and appreciated his many friends in that class. Working out at the church gym and sharing lunch with friends at the church's Jane's Grill was an important and most enjoyable part of Kerney's days for many years. His friends there will tell you that "Banana pudding Tuesdays" were not to be missed.

He was a devoted Christian who served as a Deacon at River Oaks Baptist Church in their early days in Houston. He raised his family on this Christian

foundation. The sons remained close to him and each other forever, and are comforted in the knowledge that he is with the Lord in Heaven and reunited with Kathleen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM., Wednesday, February 8, at the Second Baptist Church Chapel, 6400 Woodway, Houston, TX.

Internment will be a private graveside service in Laurel at a later date.

Friends who desire may make memorial donations to their favorite charity.
