Marco Allison, ‘ Ko’, 61, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on April 23, 2021 at his wife’s home in Houston, Texas. He was born on August 25, 1959 in Bangkok, Thailand to Gordon H. Marco loved to give and enjoyed witnessing friends and family members joy of receiving. He was loyal to his late parents papa and mama, two sisters and longtime friends and his loving wife of 30 years. He was an amazing author of life sharing experiences no matter where he lived. Marco was a shining magnet attracting others to him with his big shiny black eyes and long beautiful eyelashes. Thai children often wanted to put toothpicks on top of
his eyelashes. His sisters had to guard him at all cost. The trio enjoyed playing outdoors, riding bikes and flying kites. In the evening, they took turns sitting on papa’s lap as he read children stories and created a character for Marco. Marco was brilliant at chess game playing with papa. Monopoly was also his favorite game as he always won and was the owner of the most expensive property with hotels. At one point Marco was in a cyclist competition. His long and lean body at six foot tall figure frightened Thais. He loved to ride bikes and was an enthusiastic collector of many fancy bikes until the end of his time.
Growing up in Bangkok, Marco was ill due to asthma and was often hospitalized. For this reason, mama petitioned a sacred monk to heal and look after him. In return, Marco entered a Thai monastery in monkhood. Marco became interested in Buddhist meditation as he often cited prayers and chanted every day of his life. He believed in a spiritual world and constantly prayed for souls that needed healing. His love for nature, plants, gold fish and ponds was evident since childhood. Following in the footsteps of late mama, he planted a vegetable garden filled with native Thai species. His green thumbs were definitely a sweet memory of mama.
Marco came to the United States in the 80’s and worked at different establishments mostly for the Thais as a store clerk and store manager. He met his wife, and the two opened a donut shop and later a burger diner in Houston. Later when papa died, Marco had an opportunity to return to Thailand with his mama. They were blessed when his sister gave birth to her second child, Aim. With the encouragement from his big sister in Houston, Marco furthered his education in the field of massage therapy. He enrolled in วัดโพธิ์ Wat Pho Thai Traditional Medical and Massage School and achieved his medical massage certification. As is customary in Thailand, Thais call a massage therapist, “Doctor Nuad.” He often practiced his therapy with many Thai monks in Houston and Sugar Land, Texas. He specialized in massage therapy that helps and heals the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. He was interested in this field since papa had suffered for over a decade from PD and eventually passed away with Pneumonia at the age of 61.
Marco was a loyal and devoted son to his late mother, Khun Yai. He faithfully took care of her till the end of her time when they were in a little cottage in Brookshire, Texas. With such devotion, his departure was somewhat sudden. Peacefully he left us to a better place where sufferings are no more. His longtime friend and wife was heartbroken but hopeful they will reunite in the next life as taught in Buddhism. She remains on this earth to make merits with steadfast love and support to Marco so that the two can enjoy their next cycle of life. Prayerfully, they shall rejoice when they meet again. For us who believe in God, Lord Almighty, the everlasting life is our reward; we shall be with Marco for an eternity.
So long for now our beloved Marco, Ko. We so love you with all our aching hearts.
