One of Grammy's favorite songs (she made me sing it with her and I did not know the words)

Oh Danny Boy

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come you back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Auntie Olive.
You will be sadly missed but always in our thoughts.

Those we Love remain with us,
for Love itself lives on.
Cherished memories never fade,
because one loved is gone.
Those we Love can never be,
more than a thought apart,
for as long as there’s a memory,
they live on in our heart...
RIP

Dear Janet and Family,

Thinking of you all during this very sad time and remembering Aunt Olive, RIP.

The first time I met Aunt Olive was on 19th June 1966 - 41 years ago this week. There was great excitement in Crossfield on her return for the first time after many years in the USA. One of the few neighbours who owned a car - Paddy Burke, collected her from Shannon Airport (then known as Rianna Airport) in his green Morris Minor (reg no HIM 26). Paddy's aunt (who lived in Kansas city for many years) bought the car for him on 1-11-1961 at a cost of £430 (old Irish pounds).

Aunt Olive stayed with us in Crossfield House until approx Sept 10th. I remember her coming to see me working the horses and talking of her father's time and he working the horses also. She came to see us cut turf with a slane. She stayed with me in the cow byre while I milked the cows and she regaled me with stories of her youth in Kilconly.

I remember my grandmother, Elizabeth (Muddie) going to visit her in New York in August 1949. Uncle Charlie (Olive's brother) returned with Muddie to Ireland in the Spring of 1951.

We spoke with her on the telephone many times over the years. She was always very interested in the lives of the extended Lynch family - especially the younger members, and had a great memory for names. She was particulary pleased that I settled in Kildare (close to the Curragh)- the home of the thoroughbred horse!

Just a few of my memories of a wonderful person - Aunt Olive.
