Victoria Ann Baker, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 66 on August 9, 2022. She was born on July 25, 1956, in Montgomery, Alabama to Marion H. Baker and Renee Louise Holley and was the middle child of five siblings.
Victoria graduated from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras in 1982 with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree and also taught there until 1983. From Honduras she moved to the United States to obtain a Master of Math Education degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in 1984. She taught Math at Texas A&M until 1990 when she moved to Houston to teach Math at the University of Houston-Downtown for 28 years until her retirement in 2015. She faithfully attended St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church for 30 years and participated in the youth ministry for many years. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren), watching gameshows, her crazy tea order from Starbucks, and eating tasty food.
Although she had many professional accolades, Vicky’s true pride and joy was her daughter Cristina, and her grandchildren Ava & Cade. Vicky’s legacy as a dedicated mother, sister, aunt and friend will always be in our hearts. She could always be counted on for adventure in easy times and support during the hard times. Vicky was a social butterfly and loved sharing stories of her days competing for Ms. Honduras, her many travels back there and the adventures she shared with her friends. She was not only loyal but also incredibly loving.
Victoria is survived by her daughter, Cristina Baker Covington & husband Richard of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Ava Sophia and Cade Ozell; brother Mark Baker and wife Crystal of The Woodlands; brother Alan Baker of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Debra Baker Oliva, and Norma Baker; and her niece, Julia Oliva.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 10am-12pm at Beresford Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 10:30am at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church with a reception to follow.
