Winston Lee Heung, better known as "Alook" to his family, was born on April 15, 1930, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies.
Winston was born deaf. In 1976, he lost his first eye, and in 1985 he lost his second eye - both due to glaucoma. Dr. Richard L. Kimbrough, Houston Eye Associates, took excellent care of Winston and did everything possible to save his eyes during these trying years of his life. We will never forget his kindness to Winston. Thank you Dr. Kimbrough.
Winston's mother, Lillian Lee Heung, passed away in 1981. They were very close, so this became very saddened days for him as he felt so lost without her.
Winston stayed at the Lighthouse of Houston, and was with them for the past 27 years - until August 15, 2009. Shelagh Moran originally placed Winston in a daytime program. Michele Paoletti-Schelp placed him in an after hours program - which they both personally had set up. Over the past 27 years, Jane, Helen Sangree, Susanne Garza, Sharon May, Stephen Schoen, John Picket, Nickie Sereal, Sandra Spheeris, Connie Almeida, Mrs. Booser, Felix, Kaye Lantz, Addie and most especially, Peggy Traylor, who all took part in Winston's daily care. Winston's family cannot begin to thank each and everyone of these kind people for all they have done for him during these years at the Lighthouse. We also realize the difficulty they had dealing with him during the last days of his life. But, we want them all to know that Winston is now with MaMa laughing, talking, hearing and seeing. And, most of all he is in the midst of our loving Saviour, Jesus Christ, who has welcomed him with open arms
