In Memory of
Miriam Gee
-

Miriam Gee, age 87, of Tyler, Texas and formerly of Houston, Texas, went to her eternal rest on May 13, 2011 in Katy, Texas. Miriam was born on September 2, 1923 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Robert Arthur and Jane Helen Tucker. She is preceded in death by her first husband Bill Pack, and husband of 41 years, Alan Gee. Also preceding her in death are brothers Bob and Randy Tucker, and her beloved son, Ross Allen Pack. She is survived by her daughter, Sheridan Pack Bunnell, son Rex Gee, son-in-law Minton Bunnell, grandchildren Vanessa Leigh and Jordan Ross Bunnell, great-granddaughter Leigha Kay Ritchie, and sister Emily Stuart.

Miriam attended Ohio University and graduated from Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. Her extraordinary musical talent was manifested through multiple career paths as a professional pianist, organist, singer, composer and teacher. She wrote hundreds of songs and musical productions that have copyright, and are sold through her music company, MR Music. Miriam considered her greatest role to be that of mother and grandmother. Her devotion to her family is matchless, and her loss to us is incalculable.

A memorial service is to be held on Thursday, the 19th of May, at eleven o'clock at Second Baptist Church, Katy, in The Williams House. The church is located at 19449 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas. In keeping with Miriam's love of country and its military, and in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that any donations in her memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).

Miriam was like a much loved older sister. My sister of choice, my sister of soul. I loved her very, very much and her family, Rex & Sheridan. She was wonderful, always with a smile and never with any unkind words for anyone. I could not have made it as a young mother of 3 without her. I've missed her love and company since she moved away from Westchester St. to Tyler. Love you always wonderful Miriam. Your friend, Dona Adams

I last saw Aunt Miriam in September. We had a wonderful visit. She was so excited about the new baby in the family! She certainly was a proud grandmother, and excited about being a great-grandmother! I sat down to play something on the piano before I left (and I am NOT talented) & she thoughtfully gave me pointers on how to play just a little better. Then she played for me & I sang! Oh! How fun! Just like old times... the Gees singing around the piano! I could almost "hear" Uncle Alan's voice harmonizing. Then, before I left she played her composition for Thanksgiving. How beautiful! She gave me a copy, so I'll always have that to remember her by. My condolences, Sherri & Rex and family. Your mother was very special to me & I will certainly miss her.

Dear, dear, Miriam's memorial service is happening as I offer my condolences to her family today. Miriam was a fixture at First Presbyterian Church of Tyler for the last several decades and was a veritable fount of musical knowledge and comments that both informed and delighted all of her friends there. Singing alto in the Chancel Choir with Miriam was a real gift for me and many others. She had a knack for harmonizing "everything" and often added interesting information about the composers or about the compositions. She would often entertain us with her piano virtuosity, playing both original numbers or old favorites...both secular and sacred. She also was an organ substitute and played service music on numerous occasions. The choir was sometimes the jury on her compositions and one of her patriotic songs was premiered by the FPC Chancel Choir/Tyler Civic Chorale in 2001 and was sung at a post 9/11 benefit concert for the victims of that disaster. She was a most amazing and talented musician but, most of all, I will remember her as a kind and gracious friend who opened her home and her heart to me and who understood my grief when my son was killed. In closing, I would like to quote Kahil Gibran who wrote "Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bring peace, abolishing strife." My friend Miriam has already been missed by so many of us at FPC since her fall and absence from choir but she is no doubt regaling the heavenly hosts with her bubbly personality, her undaunted pursuit of music excellence, and her unforgetable smile. Miriam's earthly strife is abolished and I trust that she is at total peace in harmony with her Creator as her spirit continues...

I just got word of dear Miriam's passing. It was my joy to work with her through many years of music ministry together at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler. Of special privilege was working together to prepare her composition "Alleluia" for a service (she at piano, me singing). She was a talented lady, passionate about music! I drive past her house every today on the way to work. This morning's trip was hard... Rest in peace, lovely lady. I will miss you, but rejoice that you are now part of the most glorious music ever.
