In Memory of
Jimmie William Caldwell
-

Jimmie William Caldwell, aged 80, passed away on March 13, 2026, in Houston, Texas.

Jimmie was born March 22, 1945 to Edward and Hazel Caldwell in Mineral Wells, a place he always considered home. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Jesse Caldwell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Kay Caldwell; his children, Michelle McCord (Darren) of Hurst, Texas, Bryan Caldwell (Sheryl) of Azle, Texas, Marty Caldwell (Debra) of Houston, Texas, and Ty Caldwell (Betty) of Houston, Texas, and nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Those early years helped shape the strong values of hard work, resilience, and dedication to family that would guide him throughout his life.

He attended Tarleton State University, where he was one of the original “Texan Riders,” riding on horseback to lead the football team onto the field and participating in local rodeos. He later completed his studies at the University of North Texas and began his career with General Dynamics. In time, he returned to Mineral Wells to work in the family business.

It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Kay Coufal. Together, they built both a life and a business, opening Midtown Music and Frame, where Kay managed the music side while Jimmie handled custom framing. Even after long days working in the oil and gas industry, he could often be found at night continuing his craft, building frames with the same care and pride he brought to everything he did.

Jimmie later moved his family to Houston, where they have lived since 1992. He spent many years working in the oil and gas industry, primarily offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, specializing in subsea control line testing. When work in the field slowed, he shared his knowledge by teaching courses at the local community college.

Known for his strong work ethic and determination, Jimmie was a hard worker and, at times, a bit hard-headed. Those traits, however, were part of what made him dependable and steadfast throughout his life. Though often a quiet man, he had a subtle and sometimes unexpected sense of humor that those closest to him appreciated.

Jimmie was an avid reader who always had a book nearby and seemed to have a story, fact, or piece of history ready for any conversation. While he made a life in Houston, his heart never left Mineral Wells. He returned often to visit friends, share coffee, and stay connected to the place that meant so much to him.

Above all else, Jimmie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Jimmie lived a full life, built on hard work, dedication, and love for his family. He will be remembered for his strength, his quiet humor, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, but the legacy he leaves behind will continue through the generations of family who love him.

A memorial service will be held in Mineral Wells at a future date.
