Maurice A. Hodges, III was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and uncle. He was smart and well-read. He was concerned for his family, and wanted the best for everybody.
Maurice enjoyed fishing with his brother and father. He used to sail in college. Then he and his brother used to run a fishing tackle manufacturing business that was started by their father.
He graduated with honors from Bellaire High and Vanderbilt, then earned an MBA at Washington University in St. Louis. He was also a Captain in the Air Force.
read history and science books, military fiction, spy novels, and the occasional Calvin & Hobbes book. He had just gotten into Game of Thrones, and was also waiting for the new Clive Cussler book.
Maurice enjoyed taking pictures. He used to develop his own B&W film. Later, he enjoyed tinkering with his digital pictures in Photoshop. He was pretty handy with computers, too.
He loved dogs and cats, and treated them like family members. He thought wildlife was pretty neat, and liked to share his interest with others.
He also liked to travel. He enjoyed visiting old missions in Texas, like Goliad. He also liked to take the family on road trips to places with forests, mountains, water, and sand. Beautiful places. Places people should see.
He had a pleasant, affable demeanor about him; people enjoyed his cheerfulness. He had a silly sense of humor and was fun to make jokes with.
Maurice passed away peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2013, surrounded by his family. We are heartbroken, but perhaps there is some consolation in knowing that he is now free of a body that was unable to contain his gentle, joyous spirit.
